So you’ve progressed beyond the capability of your existing ski and need something to take you to the next level. Whether free skiing with your buddies or hitting up the local INT competition here are a couple of pointers to get you on the ultimate ride this summer. First, examine how fast you are skiing. Keep in mind that when free skiing, you are likely going faster than you are in the course. Most of the intermediate to advanced level skis on the market are designed for skiing in the 30 to 34 mph range. If you hover closer to the 30 mph range, check out a ski that’s a hair wider to give you extra lift, glide and stability.
The Triumph line of skis from H.O. Sports offer high performance characteristics in a semi shaped ski. Most skis in this range will be stiffer than a beginner ski, this allows them to carry more speed into and out of a turn. Second, examine who will be using the ski. If this ski is for you and you alone, step up into a high performance binding. Bindings are arguably the most important part of your ski. The bindings transfer energy from you to the ski meaning your ski is only as good as the binding mounted to it. Many high performance bindings offer a front or rear lace up system making them easy to get in and out of, yet giving you support where you need it most. Keep in mind that ALL high performance bindings should be fit for YOU. These bindings need to be fit for your foot size and not adjustable like beginner bindings. In fact, many high performance bindings will mold to your foot with use.
Adjustable bindings may be mounted to skis of this level, however, many do not provide the same amount of performance. If you need a good performing binding that fits a lot of different foot sizes we recommend the H.O. Sports Shock Boot or the O'Brien Targa.
Finally, examine how often you will be using the ski. Many people look only at what their skiing level is today. This can lead you astray, if you ski a lot, you should be learning and skiing better. Don’t sell yourself short. If you feel that you will be skiing often and will progress, get the ski that will work for you in the future as well as today.
