A set of combo waterskis is a necessity for most every boat on the water. Combo skis are sold as a pair, so there is one ski for each foot. A set of waterskis allows you to teach new skiers how to get up easily. In addition, a combo set of waterskis can also help aid in teaching more advanced skiers how to slalom waterski by allowing them to “drop” a ski after getting up. A combo waterski typically comes equipped with an adjustable binding that will fit a large range of foot sizes to accommodate a wide range of waterskiers. Combo waterskis are designed for stability and usually have a flat rocker profile. This means the ski is relatively flat under the foot, allowing the waterski to track straight, this allows beginner to intermediate skiers to progress rapidly. In addition, many combo waterskis use an injection molding method making them one of the most affordable ways to enjoy your time at the lake.

Combo Water Skis Are Fun For Men, Women and Kids

Combo waterskis come in a variety of sizes. The rule of thumb when purchasing a combo waterski set is to buy the skis for the biggest person that will use the skis. Combo skis need to be large enough to hold the weight of the skier on top of the water. Though longer skis will be more difficult for smaller riders to maneuver, shorter skis will not support the weight of larger skiers.

A High Performance Set Of Water Skis Allows For Hard Carving Fun

Using a combo set of waterskis to teach someone to slalom is a great idea. One ski will have a rear toe strap for slalom waterskiing. Because of the flat rocker profile on a combo set of skis the overall performance of the ski will be limited to beginner slalom skiing. A dedicated slalom ski will have a more advanced rocker profile making the ski easier to turn and able to hold a more aggressive angle into the wake. This allows the waterskier to generate more speed and complete a tighter turn. In addition, slalom waterskis typically have a stiffer flex pattern. This stiffness allows the skier to advance well beyond the beginner phase.

Having the proper gear makes waterskiing all the more enjoyable. Adult and Teen waterskiers will want to use skis appropriate for their size. In addition, combo waterskiers will want to use a 75’ waterski rope. The overall length of the rope allows the skier to initiate turns slowly and with confidence. For teaching smaller children you may want to use a shorter rope. The shorter rope allows the driver and spotter to communicate more clearly with the jr. skier and keeps them close ensuring confidence.

A Pair Of Water Skis Is Your Ticket To A Summer Of Fun

For teaching kids, we highly recommend using the H.O. Sports waterskis in conjunction with the H.O. Sports tail weights. Tail weights allow light weight skiers to easily hold the tail of the ski under water. Proper body position is the key to teaching people to waterski. Because the weights aid in keeping the skis and body in the correct position, kids can maintain a heads up position getting them up sooner and with less effort.

Comfortable Coast Guard Approved Personal Flotation Device also make skiing more comfortable. We offer a full line of neoprene ski vests which are Coast Guard Approved. Waterskiers in cold climates or those skiing early or late in the season may enjoy the added warmth of an Oneill wetsuit, rash guard or thermo top.

Combo skis are made by many companies such as H.O. Sports, Obrien, Connelly and Radar. While many skis have specific advantages, we have chosen our waterski selection to match the skis we feel provide the most benefit to the most people.
